Portrait are more formal and usually done at the studio. In studio there is control over the amount and type of lighting, background, props, and environment. You have more privacy at the studio. You are not at the mercy of the weather such as harsh sun, cold temperature, wind, fog, dust, rain... etc.

Formal portraits are generally enlarged to large size and framed to be wall mounted. There are various types of photo paper to have the portraits printed on, ranging from regular E-Surface paper to canvas type.

Beautiful portraits can also be taken at your desired location. For large groups, outdoor photos are recommended. A beautiful beach, a green park, a historic place such as a Mission, or even your own place can be a perfect place for portrait sessions. The best time for doing outdoor photos will be late afternoon when the sun is soft and the colors are beautiful.
